Where to Eat in Malmö: My Top 5 Best Restaurants

The question I see very often on social media is, "What restaurants in Malmö would you recommend?" Well, since I've been here for 1.5 years already, I have some places where my family and I are used to going on weekends.

Though nobody would travel to Malmö expecting to meet the world capital of food here, the city has many good places with delicious food and a cozy vibe. There are many pizza restaurants, sushi bars, some fancy restaurants with a view, urban food market, street food and much more. Of course, you can also find interesting options in malls, such as Emporia or Triangeln, but it is a topic for another post. So let's start with my favorites!

Räksmörgås - traditional Swedish shrimp sandwich.

Räksmörgås - traditional Swedish shrimp sandwich, which is a piece of rye bread with salad, skagenröra (sauce based on mayonnaise, creme fraiche, shrimp, and herbs), boiled egg, shrimp, and caviar.

Malmö Saluhall

Website

I can call Malmö Saluhall my favorite place in the city to eat, watch people and buy some delicacies on the way home (like Danish white chocolate candies with Icelandic lava salt, for instance). Here you can find plenty of different restaurants: burgers and falafel, Asian food, Italian pasta and pizza, seafood, Swedish sandwiches (mackor), as well as delicious coffee and desserts: chocolates, traditional pastry, various sorts of icecream all year round, and much more. It is an excellent place for a whole family (even with dogs), where everyone can find something they like.

My personal favorite place is Noi Pizza - gorgeous stone-baked pizza and wine. What else do you need for a good lunch? Then I would recommend you St. Jakobs Stenungsbageri to try traditional Swedish desserts, like funny kokostoppar (cone-formed coco cookies), kanel bullar (cinnamon buns), or morotskaka (carrot cakes). You won't be disappointed.

And, of course, there are a lot of vegetarian and vegan food. Take your seat on the terrace and enjoy!

Rosegarden

Website

Neo-Asian cuisine with noodles, sushi, soup, and others - lunch buffet in Rosegarden is when you have all this food on one plate. I love this kind of Swedish restaurant where you pay for the entrance and can try whatever you want. All dishes are flavorful and delicious. I'd recommend you try spicy fish, crispy egg rolls, and dim sum.

And their fried bananas for dessert are incredible! Try it with the self-served ice cream and syrup, and you will never forget it. Cold drinks, tea, and coffee with cookies are also included in the buffet price.

They also serve a la carte and cocktails, but I haven't tried it yet. A lunch buffet is my go-to option for cold days. It literally warms your heart🙂

Mastio

Website

Mastio Pizza in Limhamn (the southernmost district of Malmö where I live) is a place for a good time in the fresh air with friends or family, accompanied by a delicious pizza and good wine. They have only a few types of pizza, but they all are great with this beautiful Leopard spotting (if you know what I mean😉), and there are several vegetarian options. I love "Maggan" pizza. Try it, and it will win your heart.

Mastio's terrace at the harbor is always full of visitors from spring to autumn, so it is better to book a table. They also have a very cozy interior inside the restaurant and friendly service. Kids also love this place, so visit when you are here.

Mastio's summer terrace is fantastic! As well as their pizza😋

Sitting here at the fish harbor is pure joy.

Jensens Bøfhus

Website

Jensens Bøfhus restaurant is located in the heart of Malmö city, and you may stumble upon it while walking there. They have lunch offers and an excellent menu with stakes, self-serve salad (try it with a baked potato), burgers, kids' menu, desserts, and drinks. Also, they offer delicious seasonal dishes: new potatoes, strawberries, etc.

It is necessary to point out that their vegan burger is perfect: juicy, not that fat, well-fried - just great.

And self-serve ice cream with a lot of toppings - all kids love it! And me too😋 It is soft, fluffy, and has that perfect creamy texture like a weightless cloud filling you with pure joy. It tastes better with the warm crispy waffle on the bottom - check for it on the menu.

MAX

Website

It would be unfair not to mention our favorite fast-food restaurant - MAX, the Swedish tastiest burgers, established in 1968. It has a perfect menu with many vegan, plant-based options and continues to develop in this direction. You may see these restaurants in Swedish movies like "Love & Anarchy" and "Well, We Were Lucky with the Weather." MAX is a part of Swedish culture.

You look for something familiar and simple when you are new to a country. After arriving in Sweden, we went to McDonald's and were totally disappointed. We had such amazing McDonald's restaurants in Odesa with fresh, delicious food and a funny atmosphere, and they are such boring and unpleasant here in Sweden... So we tried MAX, and it was fantastic. Juicy burgers, crispy nuggets, flavored milkshakes, fresh salads, and all of those well-known things we love fast-food for. MAX has a big variety of burgers (that are also customizable!) and plenty of sauces for nuggets. They also make french fries of unpeeled potatoes, which is healthier and tastier.

There is no need to tell how amazing MAX burgers are. You'd better try them and make sure of this.
